As
our group had five new members, we had to discuss once again what
spiritual emergency means in the context of our respective cultures.
We also invited Joachim Galuska to tell us about handling a spiritual
crisis.
We
had long and interesting discussions about the connection of crisis
and culture, since this type of crisis will be handled differently
in different countries. We chose the term "stepping stones"
as a symbol for our future activities.
Participants
provided an overview of how spiritual emergency is dealt with in
their respective countries. In particular Bo Wikstron was experienced
in handling clients undergoing a crisis.
These
are our "stepping stones" for the future:
- Members
of the Committee will inform each other about current and new literature
on the subject of S.E.N. and arrange to "meet" four times
a year.
- We
wish to establish a working relationship with training centres for
transpersonal therapists, in order to ensure that trainees will
be able to deal with spiritual emergencies.
- We
shall produce an information leaflet about S.E.N. for our different
countries.
- We
wish to set up study groups and meetings for therapists to study
S.E.N. and provide the necessary curriculum.
It
was pointed out that there is a need for a precise definition of
what S.E.N. actually does, to support those of us who might want
to attract expert participants to our group.
Also,
care must be taken to define S.E.N. and its aims in a way that cannot
be misunderstood, as they have been already in at least one country.
