EUROTAS DELEGATES MEETING - Minutes from Sinaia, Romania
29 May and 1 June 2003
1. Apologies
These were received from Manuel Almendro, Jacotte Chollet, Jutta Gruber, Christina Leijonhufvud, Vladimir Maikov, Christine Maurer, Vitor Rodrigues, Monique Tiberghien and Bo Wikstrom.
2. Minutes of the Last Meeting in Portugal.
These were circulated in June 2002 asking for additions/amendments. None were received and they were agreed unanimously.
3. Elections to the Board
The President, John Drew said that after 5 years he would wish to step down from the Board, but would continue to support the activities in any capacity that the Delegates and Board might wish.
Wilfried Belschner was proposed as President by Rumold Mol and Pia Keiding and seconded by Vitor Rodrigues. Elected unanimously.
Christer Claus proposed as a Member by Pia Keiding and seconded by Wilfried Belschner. Elected unanimously.
Ovidiu Brazdau proposed as a Member by Wilfried Belschner and seconded by Rumold Mol. Elected Unanimously
John Drew was thanked by Wilfried Belschner for the work he had done during the past five years and this was also appreciated by those present.
4. Financial Situation.
The current situation. Wifried Belschner as Treasurer circulated a financial statement. He said that the current situation was satisfactory. There were sufficient funds to cover any shortfall in the cost of the Sinaia Meeting and to contribute to the travel costs of some delegates. There would be a surplus of up to € 1000 and this was thanks to personal contributions to EUROTAS and the fact that some expenses were not claimed by those incurring them on behalf of EUROTAS.
5. Subscriptions. The Board Proposed that the subscription for 2002-3 should be 150 Euro and this was agreed unanimously. It was hoped that some organizations would see this as a minimum and might be able to contribute more to help extend the activities of EUROTAS in future years. It was agreed that in the absence of a fee proposed for Associate Members by the Board, friends of EUROTAS should be asked to pay an extra Euro 50 for the Sinaia and future conferences to contribute to the conference overheads.
6. Applications to join as full/associate Members
Lithuanian participants came nearly 2000 kilometers by car to explain their plans to establish a Transpersonal Association in Lithuania and this was very warmly welcomed as was the proposal by Moldavia to establish an association with the support of the Russian and Romanian Associations. Both Associations when established would apply to join EUROTAS next year.
It was also agreed that ATP should be invited to join as an Associate Member of EUROTAS and that other associations outside Europe might also apply to join. The fee for Associate Members would be 150 Euros and this would enable two delegates to come to the Eurotas annual conferences without paying the supplementary “friends in the network fee” (which was set this year at Euros 50 a person)
The Belgian transpersonal Institute ITAS has decided to terminate the co-ordination of its activities and pass them progressively to TETRA, another Belgian transpersonal association, established officially since 1997 and working always in friendly cooperation with ITAS. In December, ITAS dissolved its official association and proposed to TATRA that it join Eurotas. TETRA, represented by Nadine Deletaille who explained the situation, was accepted as a full member
Gennady Brevde gave a presentation about the establishment of the Russian Transpersonal Psychology and Psychotherapy Association (ATPP) which was warmly welcomed by the Delegates. A vote was not formally taken but the sense of the meeting was that ATPP should be welcomed as a member of EUROTAS
7. Future EUROTAS Meetings.
The incoming President Wilfried Belschner said that he would be pleased to consider Germany to host the EUROTAS conference in 2005, but that in 2004 he would propose to welcome the suggestion of John Drew the outgoing President that the Conference could be held in London. John said that he would put the proposal formally to The Centre for Transpersonal Psychology (CTP) on 26 June and it was hoped that the Conference could be held in Regents College in Regents Park in the centre of London during the last part of August. (Subsequently dates are now agreed as 17 -20 August 2004.) It would be particularly appropriate to hold the Conference in London as it would be 10 years exactly since Ian Gordon Brown, a past EUROTAS President and one of the fathers of the transpersonal in Europe, had been Conference Chairman. This proposal was welcomed by delegates. There were offers of support for future conferences in Switzerland, Austria and France
8. Eurotas Website
This was being updated and it was agreed to ask presenters at Sinaia and those who ran workshops to provide a short synopsis of their work which could then be put on the website for those who were not able to be present to access and also to act as a foretaste of the continuing work at next year’s conference
9. Reports from Delegates of activities in their associations
Delegates reported on the activities of their associations both at these meetings and in two sessions dedicated specially to feedback. This provided a very rich tapestry and display of current activities across Europe.
10. The future of EUROTAS. This was covered by a number of inputs from John Drew, Rumold Mol and in particular by Wilfried Belschner who set out a vision for the next few years. The Eurotas Star options proposed by Wilfried as a method of looking at the future of EUROTAS were to be analysed by Wilfried and fed back to members for further discussion.
11. Any other Business.
a) The meeting gave its consent to the further investigation of the possibility of EUROTAS becoming a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) under the auspices of the United Nations. Any proposals would be subject to agreement by the Board and the Delegates from National Associations. Fausto Sergei Sommers agreed to act as recipient for email documents on the proposal. A working group was agreed to be co-coordinated by Rumold Mol who would solicit membership from EUROTAS delegates. b) The Psychotherapy Committee, a working group of Eurotas established in 2000 in Bad Kissingen reported that it had held a short meeting at the request of Member Associations during the Sinaia meeting. One of its tasks would be to see if there were ways in which EUROTAS could validate on request certain programmes of Member Associations. Katy Orosz agreed to co-ordinate this activity for the next three months
c) The Future of the Eurotas Star options were collected from those present and the incoming
President agreed to report further to members via the website
