The European Transpersonal Association ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,April 1st 2001Newsletter Number 9 Dear Members and Friends of EUROTAS It is wonderful to receive news of the many and varied activities which are taking place across Europe in the transpersonal and related fields. You will find details of some of these in the following pages. We want to hear from you and look forward to seeing you at Munsbach Castle in Luxembourg during May. Please look for details of the EUROTAS Meeting on our website www.eurotas.org which is developing well and will we hope be even further improved during the next two months - see below. The Creative Initiative Committees were revised during our meeting at Heemstede in January when Ank and Rumold, the Father of the Initiative entertained us splendidly. The revised Committees are on the website so you can choose which one you wish to join. Please contact the Luxembourg team on mtklux@hotmail.com as soon as possible to let them know of your intentions even if your plans are not yet certain as it would be a pity to find that the places are all taken up and we are limited to 50- 60 participants. 1. EUROTAS Meeting at Munsbach Castle, Luxembourg, 9-13 May 2001 The Third Creative Initiative and EUROTAS annual Council Meeting We are delighted to invite you to our EUROTAS annual Council Meeting and the Third Meeting of the EUROTAS Creative Initiative. While the thread of our meetings each year is the same, the colour and context is very much decided by our local hosts. We are very fortunate that following our special meetings in Hungary in 1999 and Germany in 2000, the Luxembourg team have been working to arrange a very special castle for us which we will have entirely to ourselves. We are sure you will enjoy the lovely country surroundings and the very comfortable accommodation and good food. You can find all the details and application forms on our website http://www.eurotas.org or write or fax for more details to this address: Address: MTK, Alfred Groff (Alfred Groff) B.P.54 Fax.: 00352-719027 (Margret Frosch) L - 8005 Bertrange e-mail: Froschfrosch@web.de Luxembourg e- mail: MTKLUX@hotmail.com (MTK - Verein) The MTK Luxembourg co-ordination group preparing the meeting is: Alfred Groff, Margret Frosch Pascal Van Copenoll, Madelaine Dolon, Marie-Rose Fritz, Isolde Hetterich, Malu Holzem, Serge Kruchten, Ursula Müller, Claude Pauly, Christian Sarti and Tilli Wengler-Hahn Alfred
and Margret and the team have made very special arrangements and you
will enjoy the mixture of transpersonal work through the Creative Initiative,
the meditations, experiential sessions and workshops. Tanna Jakubowicz-
Mount mandala@polbox.pol has kindly
agreed to co-ordinate the workshops. If you would like to offer a workshop,
please contact her and copy your email also to Luxembourg froschfrosch@web.de to me profdrew@eurotas.org 2. The EUROTAS Website Beata Bishop, Frank Visser and Christopher Hall have given their time from the heart as well as from their expertise to launch our website this year. It is going from strength to strength. It needs more input from all those reading this, articles, news and views. Please give some thought to it. What needs to be changed or improved as regards your Association? Are there other links which could be added? Please write and let them have your views. It you contact them it completes a virtuous circle. Email addresses are: Beata Bishop - beatabishop@clara.co.uk Frank Visser - f.visser3@chello.nl Chris Hall chrishall@palatte.com If you are not sure copy to all the four above. Christopher Hall writes. The Eurotas Web Site will be undergoing Stage Two Development during the week of April 16th-20th 2001 in Amsterdam. This project, which will incorporate new design technologies into the existing Eurotas web site, will visually enhance the experience of visitors while not adversely effecting download times. Frank Visser, the Webmaster for the Eurotas Web, explains that "this new element will bring an exciting facelift to the Eurotas site. Although the site has only been active for one year, it has made leaps and bounds to become a valuable information dissemination tool for all European Transpersonal Societies. The next logical step is to add some special effects which will make the experience of visiting the site more positive." Frank's thoughts were echoed by Alumedia Project Director Chris Hall:"I feel that the Eurotas site is still, in many ways, in its infancy as it is less than a year old but no other project which we have worked on has come so far in such a little time. The Eurotas Web has expanded to include the organisations which make up the whole entity and it is a tribute to Editor Beata Bishop and to Webmaster Frank Visser that this project has been such a success." During the upgrade, artists and developers from London, Amsterdam, Boston and Seattle will be working on the Eurotas web site. They will be incorporating Macromedia Flash, a free web browser plug in, to many of the menu items allowing for viewers to have elements move seamlessly across their screens. "It's an exciting time," says FrankVisser, who has been the driving force behind the expansion of the site, but we need commitment from member organisations to realise the full potential of the project. We encourage members to submit material to Beata so we can include those new ideas and keep the site up to date." Look to see the improvements to the web site in April. As always, your feedback is welcome and encouraged.
ATP sent us a copy of Reflections - a monthly transpersonal journal which you can pick up from the ATP website on: http://www.atpweb.org The first edition included information on our Luxembourg Meeting. Here are a few edited excerpts: REFLECTIONS: A monthly Transpersonal E-Zine +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ April's Contemplation~ "On the spiritual path, there's nothing to get and everything to get rid of. The first thing to let go of is trying to 'get' love, and instead, to give it. That's the secret of the spiritual path. One has to give oneself wholeheartedly. Whatever we do half-heartedly, brings half-hearted results. How can we give ourselves? By not holding back. By not wanting for ourselves. If we want to be loved, we are looking for a support system. If we want to love, we are looking for spiritual growth." – Ayya Khema, Being Nobody, Going Nowhere The Day the Transpersonal Music Died: July 3, 1983 ~ Ken Wilber on ...THE DEMISE OF TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY Shambhala: We have several topics we'd like to cover, so we should get right to it. First, your resignation from the transpersonal psychology movement. That caused quite a stir. You're supposed to be its foremost theorist, yet you walk away from it. KW: Well, as I mentioned in a previous post on this site ["A Summary of My Psychological Model"], I quit referring to myself as a transpersonal psychologist in 1983. I guess because I never said much about it publicly, few noticed that I had basically resigned from the movement almost two decades ago. But at the time, this was a very difficult decision, rather upsetting to me, and I didn't make it lightly. Shambhala: Do you consider yourself part of the transpersonal movement today? KW: No, I don't. For more, point your browser to: http://wilber.shambhala.com/html/interviews/interview1220.cfm/xid,6250/yid,1853673 4. The Centre for Transpersonal Psychology - UK In June Claire Chappell will become Director of Training and Barbara Scott Administrative manager. The CTP is now trying to share and rotate responsibility and authority while building a group of 'elders' who can offer support and experience. The new 2 year modular programme of Professional Preparation has just ended with 19 out of 20 students completing the course. Weekend seminars are flourishing and there is excellent demand for future programmes. This week there was a special farewell party for Anita Somers who many will remember supported Ian Gordon Brown so valiantly when he was President of EUROTAS and in the work which he and Barbara Somers did over so many years to create the transpersonal movement in the U.K. What is so encouraging is that the work they began is now supported and directed by a wider and wider range of experienced professionals. I felt very much the enthusiasm of those present, based on feelings and evidence that the transpersonal movement in the United Kingdom is experiencing a profound groundswell of interest and forward movement. The CTP has always been a strong supporter of EUROTAS and it was encouraging to see the continued space which is given in its Bulletin to EUROTAS matters and has resulted in a number of enquiries.
The Annual Council Meeting will as usual take place at the same time as the Creative Initiative Conference. No agenda issues have been received and the proposal The Agenda. 1. Minutes of the Last Meeting. 2. Election of Officers. John Drew, proposed as President by Tanna Jakubowicz- Mount, seconded by Alfred Groff. John has agreed to put his name forward, but would be ready to stand down at any time over the next three years should a suitable candidate be available. Bo Wikstrom, proposed as Vice-President by Kirsten Haraldsdotter, seconded by Pia Keiding. Pia Keiding will retire from the post of Director of Research but remains on the Board for a further year and will then be eligible for re-election. Evgueni Faidych also remains on the Board for a further year and will then be eligible for re-election. Mario Simoes and Katalin Orosz retire by rotation after 3 years and have not put their names forward for a further term. 3. Amendments to the Bylaws a) annual fees for countries with limited resources. At the last meeting it was agreed that the issue would be looked into. In fact this was not been done. The Board suggestion is therefore that at least for a further year until and unless a review is carried out should members wish it, that The Bylaws Article II Annual Dues should be amended (amended words in captitals read: "Annual Dues of Members are determined by the Delegate Council at each annual meeting on the recommendation of the Board. Dues are payable upon notification and all Members are liable to pay, unless they are exempted by the annual decision of the Council. FOR THOSE COUNTRIES WHO FEEL THAT THEIR RESOURCES ARE SEVERELY LIMITED AND THAT THIS WOULD PERHAPS PREVENT THEIR JOINING OR REMAINING MEMBERS OF EUOROTAS, THE BOARD IS AUTHORISED TO REDUCE OR REMIT THE FEES AT ITS DISCRETION ON A YEAR BY YEAR BASIS. Dues of Friends of EUROTAS in the Network are determined by the Board. IN THE EVENT OF SUCH DUES NOT BEING DETERMINED, FRIENDS OF EUROTAS WHO ATTEND THE ANNUAL MEETING WILL PAY A SMALL SUPPLEMENT AGREED BY THE BOARD. The purpose of the above is to ensure that those who can pay the dues do so, but for the Board to be given the authority to act sensitively in certain cases. It also ensures that individuals who join the EUROTAS annual meeting and the Creative Initiative and are not members of a EUROTAS member association, contribute a little more than those who are. 4. Treasurer's Report and Subscription for 2000-2001 It is proposed that this should be Euro 130 (2000 Euro 120) 5. Venue for the next meeting. 6. Any Other Business.
Sir George Trevelyan in the early days of the Wrekin Trust wrote " it is very clear than many minds are now questing for deeper meaning and a new understanding of the great oneness of life…we may in a true sense be preparing for what might be called the University of the Spirit." Work is continuing on the "University for the Spirit." The vision is now taking root as a counterbalance to the prevailing materialistic ethos in education and as a step towards restoring the term "university" to its original meaning as being " turned towards the One." A number of developments since the last Newsletter. Research has been drawn up to map those organisations involved in the UK in " Spirituality in Education" This has been welcomed by the UK Department for Education and Employment which is currently developing a Citizenship programme for all secondary Schools which will involve projects and teaching in " politics, spiritual, moral, social or cultural issues." This will begin in 2002. The Queen talks about spirituality in her Christmas message, the London Times in its Christmas article. It reminds me of Mimi in Puccini's La Boheme: "I don't go to Church, but I pray often." Last week a TV programme identified the top 50 spiritual leaders in the UK - the Prime Minister, Tony Blair was number 1 with the traditional leaders well down the list and after the Dalai Lama. The issue of spirituality is bubbling to the surface. Next year the Wrekin Trust wants to extend its collaboration across Europe and its members would be interested in EUROTAS views on this. While the development of an agreed mission statement is still in its early stages, its purpose will include finding ways to bring the study and experience of spirituality, the transpersonal, values and ethics, concern for the planet and related issues into the educational system at all levels in a way that enable students and staff to acquire the transdisciplinary wisdom to address the fundamental issues facing humanity. Should you feel inspired to consider involvement in the early stages, do please contact the Wrekin Trust. 20 The Chase, Reigate Surrey RH2 7DH tel/fax +441737 779 386 e-mail: wrekin@cwcom.net Please copy to John Drew who is involved and would also like to suggest a Creative Initiative EUROTAS Committee on t he subject. profdrew@eurotas.org
Tanna Jacubowicz-Mount writes: The PTT is going to co-operate with a private TV producer Media Corporation which wants to produce a programme called Good News. PTT will use it to present new (transpersonal) models and solutions in various areas of life and science: culture, education, communication, medicine, management, economics, ecology, psychology, art and so on. Please send us your ideas and examples of good news from all over the world! love Tanna. "

Six day workshop with Stan Grof (two days), Diana and stuff on transpersonal psychology and holotropic breathing in an attractive area near of St. Petersburg (module of the Grof Transpersonal Training). If you are interested to participate please sent your mails to Vladimir Maikov (Russian-side co-ordinator of the Grof Transpersonal Training program) e-mail: maikov@df.ru Love, Vladimir Please note that last year at Bad Kissingen, the sense of the meeting was for EUROTAS to join EAP. In practice there are some difficulties, not least that it would be too expensive unless we were to pay much higher subscriptions. I hope we can discuss it again at Munsbach.
Alfred thanks for the good work you are doing for us and will meet in May. Ank, looking forward to see you soon. You others, take care. In love & light
Best wishes to all readers and please keep sending you professional and personal notes for the next newsletter. As ever, John |
