1.  The Moscow EUROTAS Conference – a report

Human Consciousness, Human Values in an Interconnected World;

A  Transpersonal Approach - Moscow 23-26 June

The Seventh EUROTAS Conference was held from 23-26 June 2005 at the Moscow Academy of Public Service at the Presidency of the Russian Federation. It was organized in Russia by the Association of Transpersonal Psychology and Psychotherapy with the participation of the Moscow Open Centre, the Transpersonal Foundation and the partial collaboration of the Professional Psychotherapeutic League (Russia)

The Conference brought together over 200 like minded participants from over twenty different countries. The Russian experience - the opportunities for meeting old friends and making new ones and the wide range of workshops  available  - all went together to make the Conference a very worthwhile event for those interested in transpersonal psychology across national boundaries. It was very special for the Europeans to welcome so many friends and colleagues from the United States – Robert Frager, Bob Schmitt, Pat Luce, David Lukoff, Stuart Sovatsky, Bert and Betty Parlee and Glenn Hartelius among them. Over 20 different associations were represented and those visiting Russia were honoured by the distinguished representatives of so many different Russian Associations who were present

The sun shone throughout the conference and there were opportunities for visits to historic sites in Moscow and elsewhere. The hospitality and kindness of our Russian hosts was exceptional and there were many little acts of thoughtfulness and of support experienced by many as they came to terms with the complexities of traveling so far to the conference from all over Europe and elsewhere. Vladimir Maykov and Gennade Brevde and their devoted team worked very hard to make the Conference come alive. The Soul of Europe Concert on the last evening again showed the undoubted talents aside from their transpersonal expertise of many would be singers, actors and dancers!

“Ways through the Wall” - a book of essays based around the 2004 London Conference was launched and GRETT with Bernadette Blin and her associates agreed to host the 2006 EUROTAS Conference from 5-8 October in France with the theme: “Revealing the Divine Feminine.”  Vitor Rodriquez was confirmed as President of EUROTAS and Bernadette Blin and Jason Wright joined the EUROTAS Board

Further information about the Conference will be posted along with a number of papers presented on the EUROTAS website www. eurotas.org shortly

Vitor Rodrigues, the President of EUROTAS writes:  I was very happy to see the way participants were involved and sharing their views in a spirit of cooperation and mutual learning instead of competition. This can be said to be a nice evidence of maturity and development in the transpersonal field which was, in turn, very well represented by participants from quite different areas around the world. This was a nice, warm and creative Conference and, along with the previous one held in London last year, I know it will produce very important future developments stemming out of new contacts, new ideas and new friendships among participants. It looks like we are gathering our strength so that in the future we will be able to contribute in a more visible and powerful way to this world of ours. Events like this one really invite us to dream of a new society that will be a unified field of body and soul – because we have seen, here and there, this utopian Garden of Eden already planted and growing in the hearts of actual human beings already behaving like citizens of that new society. I believe that the best way to a happy Utopia is just as easy as this: we start behaving as if we were already inhabitants of that far away, symbolic island and then, when enough of us are doing so, suddenly it is not far away but here, it is not utopia but physical reality. In events like this great Moscow Conference we get a taste, a glimpse and some training for a society of love and light. My personal thanks to the organizers and to the participants!

Love,

Vitor

Vladimir Maykov writes and  it is quoted here as he wrote it

Dear John,

We are together with you and other London’s citizens in this tragic day of the terrorist attack in London. Let the innocent victims of terrorists be in peace in their last journey.

It’s not easy to say good words about conference at this time, but I also know that you are releasing the new bulletin and want to give some feedback.

The Moscow Conference started a new era in the history of EUROTAS.

  1. It opened a chain of annual conferences here host countries present around 30% of the total program and this is the way to be acquainted with the transpersonal in Europe.
  2. It was the first EUROTAS conference with a significant presence of famous American presenters and actually generated an initiative towards forming in a 4-5 years a World Transpersonal Association (we discussed this possibility with David Lukoff).
  3. It was the first International transpersonal conference taking place in Russia (before that we had only Russian-American meetings).

Four days of the Conference was in great coincidence with the “death-rebirth” process described by four perennial matrixes by Stan Grof. First day “womb unity”, second day “despair”, “no-exit” situation, third day – breakthrough, and fourth day “rebirth”.

I continue to receive a feedback from many colleagues and friends. The conference was a challenge for the Russian organizing committee and I would like to express my deep gratitude for all the conference team which worked very hard to make it happen.

Love

Vladimir

Publisher’s Introduction

Many people from different backgrounds, cultures and faith traditions are beginning to review their concepts of consciousness and spirituality. All agree that more sense and meaning has to be made of our complex, interconnecting world society that is changing at an unprecedented rate

Ways through the Wall is a book of short essays that demonstrates how some concepts of transpersonal psychology are contributing in a practical way to our thinking about this fast-changing world

The twenty-eight contributors to Ways through the Wall are members of the international transpersonal community. They range from distinguished academics, writers, members of the faith traditions and leaders of spiritual traditions in their own countries to professional practitioners in hospitals, schools and other organisations. They are linked by their common concern for enabling the development of an interconnecting world and their practical experience of working to make things happen

This unique book is an invaluable source of hope and ideas to those who seek a way through the wall that prevents our deepest thoughts and spiritual longings from reaching their true expression in a modern, often unheeding, world. It will appeal to professionals interested in a wide variety of approaches as much as to the general reader searching for leads and ideas on their spiritual path
